Product Carbon Footprint, new sidebar, and Simulation fixes

Product Carbon Footprint

This release introduces an exciting new feature: the Product Footprint! With this you can calculate emissions for a company’s products based on the existing emissions data in the Inventory.

From the Product Footprint view you can define your products and allocation keys, then assign Inventory entries to these keys to distribute emissions across products.

The product footprint will then be available from the Reports view as a spreadsheet download.

Note: This is a paid feature that needs to be enabled per company account. This can be done by an Admin via Consultancy Settings > Company Accounts.

New sidebar

You’ll notice an updated sidebar with clearer groupings. The views have been re-arranged slightly to align with the stages of a carbon footprint process. They organized under the headings: Report, Measure, Analyse, and Library.

Fixed step size & Trade in Simulations

You can now define a fixed step-size reduction per year or by end year. This step size will always be the same, even if the inventory emissions change.

We also renamed all the options in the Manipulation type dropdown to be more intuitive.

Additionally, simulations now take Intercompany Trade into account. No edits to existing simulations are required; results will now automatically reflect the trade data entered in the Inventory.

Finally, we updated the calculation engine so that action with the “% by final year” manipulation type, will now apply a linear-change assumption year-over-year.

This might alter the in-between results of earlier simulations in new runs compared to the old runs, who had an exponential change assumption.

The total simulation effect sizes (in tCO2 and %) are unchanged.

Minor updates and fixes

  • “Something went wrong” alerts – We’ve reduced the number of unexplained and unactionable warnings you’ll receive. Please continue to report any errors or unexpected behaviour that you encounter.
  • Keep original units – Custom text for units can now also be retained during import.
