Importing data from an inventory export

When creating a GHGP or ISO report, you always also get a copy of the "full inventory export" of the same boundaries and reporting period. You can also generate only the full inventory export from the Reports page by going to the Create tab, choosing the Inventory Export tile, picking the reporting period and organizational units you want to include, and clicking "Create Report".

Using this data, you can recreate an inventory in another company account using the import function. More specifically, you will want to perform a Factor Reference Import. Keep in mind that you can only import one activity category at a time. You can find some helpful import templates specifically for factor reference imports on this page.

Since the full inventory export will contain a lot of information that you will not need for the import, and since you can't import several categories at a time, it is strongly suggested to copy one category at a time to new files ready for importing. You can import a lot of information using this method but you will at least need:

  • Description
  • Start and end dates
  • Organizational unit
  • Volume (one potential issue here is if you have used a different volume than the emission factor) please make sure to review this post import)
  • Factor reference (this is found almost at the rightmost end of the inventory export)

Your final sheet ready for import for purchased electricity might look something like this.

The Factor reference column is used to tell Carbon+Alt+Delete exactly which emission factor to use. The factor unit is always included in the factor reference so only the volume will be needed to get the right emissions output.

When importing the file, make sure to choose "By Factor Reference" as your factor mapping method and that you map "Factor reference" to "Emission Factor Reference".

Next, make sure that organizational unit is mapped correctly and import the file. Once verified, you can import the file and review your data in the inventory.
