Connecting to the Carbon+Alt+Delete MCP
The Carbon+Alt+Delete MCP (Model Context Protocol) connector lets you interact with your Carbon+Alt+Delete data directly from your preferred LLM Client. Once connected, you can ask questions, explore your inventory, and work with your emissions data using natural language — without leaving ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Co-Pilot, or whatever else you prefer.
What the MCP can do
The first version of the Carbon+Alt+Delete MCP gives you access to the following capabilities across the platform:
| Area | Capability |
|---|---|
| Measure — Boundaries | Create, read, and update boundaries (activity groups, activity categories, fields, options, org units, reporting periods) |
| Measure — Inventory | Read and query inventory lines |
| Report — Reports | Read GHG protocol context and benchmarks |
| Analyse — Benchmarking | Read and update benchmarks |
| Factor Library | Find emission factors |
More capabilities will be added over time. If there is something specific you need, let us know — we actively use community feedback to prioritize new tools.
Example use cases
Build custom reports based on your GHG data
You can ask to pull together a summary of your emissions data and generate a report tailored to your needs. For example:
"Can you write me an executive summary with recommendations to reduce the carbon footprint for our Indoor Playground facility, based on the reporting period Y-2024?"
This will query your inventory via the MCP and return a structured, narrative response drawing directly on your real data.
Set up or copy custom fields between companies
If you manage multiple companies in Carbon+Alt+Delete, the MCP can help you replicate configuration across them. For example, if you have a set of custom fields already defined for one company, you can share a screenshot with your LLM Client and ask it to apply the same setup to another company — saving the manual effort of recreating fields one by one.
Find the right emission factor for your activities
You can search the Carbon+Alt+Delete factor library on your behalf to identify the most appropriate emission factor for a specific activity. Describe what you are measuring — such as a fuel type, a travel mode, or a material — and the LLM Client will return up to three candidate factors with a recommendation on which to use.
Prefer activity-based factors (physical units like kWh, litres, kg, passenger-km, tonne-km) over spend-based factors where possible, as these tend to be more accurate.
Evaluate and quality-check your inventory data
Review your inventory for common data quality issues before submitting or reporting. For example:
"Can you compare the inventories for all our reporting periods for Stationary and Mobile Combustion? I want to avoid missing data, typos and decimal errors, use of wrong units, and unsuitable keyword or detail entries."
This will read your inventory lines via the MCP and flag anything that looks inconsistent or incomplete.
Connecting using Claude
Note: The steps below apply to Claude's web interface (claude.ai) on a Team or higher plan. Your view may differ slightly depending on your role or licence plan. Only organisation owners and admins can set up connectors for a team.
Setting up the connector
1. Go to Organisation Settings
In Claude, open Organisation Settings. Navigate to the Connectors tab. If the Carbon+Alt+Delete connector has already been added by an owner or admin in your organisation, it will appear in the list here and you can skip straight to Using the connector.
2. Add a custom MCP connector
If Carbon+Alt+Delete is not yet listed, click Add custom web. You will be prompted to fill in two fields:
- Name — Give the connector any name you like, for example
Carbon+Alt+Delete. - URL — Enter the Carbon+Alt+Delete MCP server URL:
https://app.carbonaltdelete.eu/mcp
Leave Advanced settings as they are. Click Add to save.
3. Log in to Carbon+Alt+Delete
The first time you connect, a pop-up window will appear asking you to log in. Use the same email address and password you use to log in to Carbon+Alt+Delete. Once authenticated, the connector will be saved and ready to use.
Note: SSO is not yet available for the MCP login. You will need to authenticate with your Carbon+Alt+Delete email and password.
If you are an organisation owner on Claude's Team plan, this connector will automatically become available to all members of your team — they will not need to set it up individually.
Using the connector
Once the connector is set up, navigate to Chat in Claude. Make sure the Carbon+Alt+Delete connector is activated in your connectors panel. You can then start chatting with your Carbon+Alt+Delete data directly.
Each tool call is tied to your user context, so you will only have access to the companies available to you in the Carbon+Alt+Delete interface. If you work across multiple companies, you can switch between them during the chat.
Troubleshooting
The connector shows an error when I try to add it. This usually means the same MCP server URL has already been registered for your organisation. Check the Connectors list in Organisation Settings — Carbon+Alt+Delete is likely already there.
I don't see the Connectors tab in Organisation Settings. The Connectors feature is available on Claude's Team plan and above. If you are on an individual plan, you may not have access to this feature.
I don't see the Carbon+Alt+Delete connector in Chat. Make sure the connector is toggled on in your connectors panel before starting a conversation. Connectors can be enabled or disabled per chat session.
I can only see data for one company but I work across several. You can switch the active company during your chat. Just ask Claude to switch to a different company and it will update the context for subsequent tool calls.
Connecting using ChatGPT
Note: The steps below apply to ChatGPT's web interface on a Business (or higher) plan. Your view may differ slightly depending on your role or plan. Only admins can add and publish MCP connectors for a workspace.
Setting up the connector
1. Go to Workspace Settings
In ChatGPT, open Workspace Settings. Navigate to Apps. This shows a library of available integrations.
Carbon+Alt+Delete is not yet listed in the library itself, so you will need to add it manually as a custom connector.
2. Enable Developer Mode and create a new app
Click Create, then enable Developer Mode. You will be prompted to fill in the following:
- Name — Give the connector any name you like, for example
Carbon+Alt+Delete. - Description — Add a short description if you wish.
- URL — Enter the Carbon+Alt+Delete MCP server URL:
https://app.carbonaltdelete.eu/mcp
- Authentication — Select OAuth as the authentication method.
Accept the security warnings and click Create to save. You can optionally add a logo before creating.
3. Log in to Carbon+Alt+Delete
Once the connector is created, you will be prompted to log in. Use the same email address and password you use to log in to Carbon+Alt+Delete. Once authenticated, the connector is ready to use.
Note: SSO is not yet available for the MCP login. You will need to authenticate with your Carbon+Alt+Delete email and password.
4. Publish the connector to your workspace (admins only)
As a workspace admin, you can publish the connector so that all members of your workspace have access to it. Open the connector you just created, click Publish, and accept the security confirmation.
Once published, each team member can connect to Carbon+Alt+Delete using their own login credentials — they do not need to create the connector themselves.
Using the connector
Once the connector has been published by your admin, any user in the workspace can activate it. In the ChatGPT chat interface, click the + icon, go to More, and you will see a list of MCP connectors available to you. Select Carbon+Alt+Delete to activate it and start chatting with your Carbon+Alt+Delete data directly.
Each tool call is tied to your user context, so you will only have access to the companies available to you in the Carbon+Alt+Delete interface. If you work across multiple companies, you can switch between them during the chat.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Carbon+Alt+Delete in the Apps library. Carbon+Alt+Delete is not yet available as a listed app and must be added as a custom connector. Follow the steps above to add it manually using Developer Mode.
The connector was created but I can't see it in Chat. Click the + icon in the chat interface, go to More, and look for your connector in the MCP list. Make sure the connector has been published by a workspace admin if you are not the one who created it.
I don't see the Apps tab in Workspace Settings. MCP connectors are available on ChatGPT's Business plan and above. If you are on an individual plan, you may not have access to this feature.
I can only see data for one company but I work across several. You can switch the active company during your chat. Just ask ChatGPT to switch to a different company and it will update the context for subsequent tool calls.
