Commit
Companies interested in pledging to a near-term or net-zero SBT should begin by registering online and signing and submitting the SBTi Commitment Letter.
Companies have the option to commit to a near-term or a comprehensive net-zero SBT - which includes near-term target(s), long-term target(s), and strategies for offsetting remaining emissions. Note: Opting for a net-zero target is optional, not mandatory.
Once a commitment is made, the SBTi provides guidance to companies on how to effectively communicate their near-term and/or net-zero aspirations.
It's essential to understand that the SBTi retains the authority to conduct due diligence to validate the genuineness of new near-term and/or net-zero commitments before final acceptance.
If a company already operates under an emissions or net-zero reduction target, the Commitment Letter will serve as an affirmation of the company's intent. This can either be to validate its present goals against the SBTi's established near-term/net-zero criteria or to craft new objectives that sync with these criteria.
