How to: Use Volume formulas

The system allows you to calculate the activity volume in the way that works best for you. All activity categories allow the entry of a single value to be used as the volume, but some categories have additional options for when you might need to do a calculation to determine the final volume.
Formula options are available for Upstream Transport, Employee Commuting, Business Travel, Downstream Transport, and Capital Goods.
For formulas with more than one formula term, there is also a distinction between the Factor Unit (used for determining the emission factor) and the Volume Unit (used for data entry). This allows you to build your Volume Unit flexibly by combining it your preferred formula term units.
The Volume Unit can differ from the Factor Unit. For example, if the factor unit is pass.km, but the compounded volume unit for the load.location.count formula is kg.km, you will receive a warning prompting you to update one of the units. It’s important to note that while the warning appears, emissions are still calculated. These warnings are also displayed in the status overview for easier monitoring.
