We have extended the available emission factors from the UK Government (BEIS/DEFRA). Also the IEA emission factor database for electricity is now available.
We have introduced new table columns “Keyword” and “Details”. These are how we refer to the two values on an entry that allow the system to find the appropriate Emission Factor. Entries in different categories, or with different structures can now be displayed more simply. You will still see the original labels for these fields in the Detail Pane and can identify the field based on the option presented in the dropdown.
You can now select a unit for an entry that is not the same as the unit provided by the source publication. Unit conversion between units of the same type (e.g. weight) are allowed. We will not accommodate conversions between units where the conversion is possible but is specific to, for example, a substance (e.g. litres of water to kg of water).
If you navigate to Boundaries and then select “Emission Factors”, you can select which source to use for each type of activity. You should aim to set up the correct sources before you begin any data entry. If at a later date you need to change sources, you will be able to do so, but emissions will be recalculated where possible and you may have to manually update entries to match their details to the new source.
The inventory can now load faster. This will save you time, in particular when dealing with many inventory lines.
Below you can download a set of slides with more information on the inventory update. The recordings of our product webinar last week can be found here.
Note that this inventory update also impact our import templates. You can find the updated ones on our support pages (and linked in the top bar of this page).
We are looking forward to a big Report update, including editable reports, and facilitating the use of ecoinvent Emission Factors with imported data.
